Cheddar’s Annual Parish Meeting takes place on Thursday April 17th at 7pm in Fairlands School hall in Cheddar.  This is a change of venue as there are more community awards to be presented this year including, for the first time, a team award for service to the community in 2013.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The key presentation this year will be of interest to all Cheddar residents who would like to know how the problem of the flood water that closed the Gorge in the winter of 2013 was solved.   Linda Wilson, CEO of Charterhouse Caving Company will show how, working in the most difficult and at times dangerous conditions, the water was diverted by a team of volunteers opening up the swallet that would take the excess water.  In recognition of their sterling work the Charterhouse Caving Company will be receiving a special community award this year.   Whereas the award is usually made to individuals who have contributed to village life, these volunteers will be receiving a team award and our thanks for their work.

Individuals who will also be recognised for their contribution will be revealed on the night, with five highly regarded nominees who Lyn Goodfellow, Chairman of Cheddar Parish Council, will be delighted to recognise on behalf of the community.

The chairman will also present an overview of the work undertaken by the Parish Council in the past year and there will be a question and answer session at the end. It is hoped that there will be a good audience for what promises to be a very interesting annual parish meeting.
