Litter Pick report

Date  Sunday  29th March 2009

Roads picked:-

Skinners Green Lane
Wheatlands Lane
Enborne Street

It is clear that some parts of the Parish attract certain types of litter bugs, for example, Skinners Green Lane at the Bypass produced the complete front end of a Ford Escort, and in kit form, the front of a Peugeot 405.

Wheatland Lane's main contributions were car Tyres, and two bikes.

Enborne Street at Biggs Hill area, produced a stash of 20 empty Vodka Bottles, and about 15 wine bottles, and a complete set of wheels and tyres at the Oak Ridge end.

It seems our roads shake off wheels trims, as at least ten were collected.

Predominant through the day, was the discovery that Stella drinkers have bad habits, it is estimated that at least 200 cans were recovered from the verges overall, second place went to Strongbow drinkers, and third place to cheap crisp eaters.

McDonalds  boxes  and chip wrappers also faired well particularly along Skinners Green Lane.

Overall, five full wheely bin loads were collected, in addition to the larger items which are all now at rest in the public tip.

RUTS ON ROADSIDE VERGES AND ROAD SAFETY

A number of complaints have reached the Parish Council regarding grass verges that are being damaged by motorists parking on or driving over them. As a result of this a survey was made of the Parish roadways and several areas have been found to have suffered from “traffic” damage.

This can result in a gradual deterioration of what is currently a pleasant neighbourhood amenity and if not stopped, could contribute to a decline in property values. Additionally, the resulting mud left on the road surface is dangerous.

Residents are therefore being advised in some vulnerable areas with the request to be careful when driving in and out of their gateways to prevent driving over the verges; secondly where necessary to repair damage already caused and/or cleaning the road surface outside their properties.

Contractors and visitors calling to deliver materials etc should also be warned in advance is there is a prospect of damage from heavy vehicle tyres, as these are especially damaging .

Precept for 2009 - 2010

At the December meeting of the Enborne
Parish Council, the precept for the coming
Year was set at £3,300.00

This represents a reduction of 17.5% over
last year’s precept charge.
