Playing Field
19 July 2010

Update from Scaldwell Playing Field Community Group re. Play Builder Funding for Playing Field development

Unfortunately we have today had some bad news regarding the project, as a direct result of the change of government.  A few weeks ago, local authorities were told by central government that they could use the funding elsewhere if necessary.  Northants decided not to do this, and dedicated the money to playbuilder projects.  However, central government has now informed them that no further contracts are to be issued and all are to be reviewed, and even those issued are to be reviewed to see if they can feasibly be stopped.  It isn't a definite no yet, with more information at the end of August, but in the light of education, transport, NHS, civil service etc etc cuts, it looks bleak.  It looks like central government will tray to claw back all the playbuilder funds they can from local authorities.

On the plus side, and striving to be positive - the SPFCG are now in a great position to move forward with the design side of the project.  We know exactly what is required and what it will cost, and will immediately re-group and look to apply for further funding from other sources, such as the lottery.
