Community Speed Watch

Wood Street Councillor Paul Cragg and Jacobs Well speed watch veteran Councillor Derek Slaymaker have now completed a training course which will allow them to erect “Slow Down” speeding reminder signs at approved sites throughout the Parish. The course, organised by P.C. Matt Redfern of the Central Guildford Safer Neighbourhood Team & Surrey Highways explained the rules, regulations and safety procedures to be observed when erecting signs on the public highway. Paul and Derek even have a Health and Safety Executive ladder climbing certification now !

Paul and Derek will now be moving the Parish Council`s two radar triggered signs to speeding hotspots throughout Worplesdon in the next coming weeks. You may find a sign stays at one place for up to six weeks, but may be moved on to another location as conditions dictate. If residents feel there is a particular place where such a sign might be useful please get in touch with Gaynor our Parish Clerk. However do remember that there are some very specific criteria that have to be satisfied before a site can be designated for use of these radar signs.

It's one more way the Parish Council and the Councillors are trying to improve life in Worplesdon.

Paul Cragg  March 2011

In January 2007, in response to residents' concerns about speeding traffic, Worplesdon Parish Council purchased three Community Speed Watch (CSW) kits  for the three existing groups.  Unfortunately, many of the original voluteers have left the groups and we urgently need more volunteers!

If you would like to find out more about CSW which plays a curcial role in helping to re-educate motorists about speed and raise awarenes of the impact that anti-social driving can have on communities or to find out  how you can be involved please contact Surrey Police on :
