The Somerset Waste Board (SWB) met in Taunton on Friday the 24th February 2017. The outcome is that County will sign a 25-year contract with Viridor from 2020 including Dimmer as a Waste Transfer Station to handle household waste from South Somerset and Mendip.
This is in spite of the fact that local councils were promised that when the landfill operation ceased, Dimmer dump would be no longer be used for refuse. This promise has now been broken.
Representatives from Ansford Parish Council, Castle Cary Town Council, Carymoor Parish Council and Care4Cary have for months been trying to stop this from happening on the grounds that the B3153 (the road that goes through Clanville, Alford etc) is totally unsuitable for HGVs.
