PC Joe Carroll's memorial unveiled

There was an excellent turnout on 23rd April at the unveiling of PC Joe Carroll’s memorial in the lay-by north of West Woodburn overlooking the parish.

The ceremony was attended by Mrs Carroll, Joe’s mother, Hilda, and Northumbria Police Deputy Chief Constable Sue Sim.
The stone was donated by Woodburn quarry Stancliffe Stone, and installed by Tenterhouse Landscapes free of charge.
Hexham builders’ merchants J.T. Dove also donated the kerb stones for the site.
The memorial incorporates an engraved plaque detailing key features in the parish.
Deputy Chief Constable, Sue Sim, said: “Joe was a dedicated and highly respected officer who was popular in the area where he lived and worked.  This memorial reflects this popularity and ensures his memory will live on.”
Joe’s friend and colleague PC Stuart Kilby gave a speech at the ceremony, as did parish council chairman Coun. Ann Pender.
Following the unveiling, refreshments were served in the Parish Hall, provided by Brandy Bank House.
