 of Pirbright Parish Council

Pirbright Parish, in the borough of Guildford, has an area of some 4711 acres and a population of 4214 (census 2001), falling into two distinct communities with almost half living in the village and outlying settlements and the remainder 2km away in the military area to the north of the railway.  The village is almost entirely surrounded by heathland, much of it owned and used by the M.O.D.

The Parish Council is the first tier of local government, with seven elected members and the clerk.  The council is responsible for maintenance of the village green, pond, playing fields, Lord Pirbright's Hall and recreation ground and also acts as a liason for the parish with Guildford Borough and Surrey County Councils.

At the by-election held on 15 July, following the sad death of Mike Nevins, who represented PIrbright on Surrey County Council and Guildford Borough Council, Gordon Jackson has been elected to Guildford BC and Nigel Sutcliffe to SCC.
