The Mayor of Ramsgate wished some of us a happy Christmas with the help of an SFP Wherever (UK) Ltd sponsored card – the people who want to redevelop the publicly owned Pleasurama site for their own profit. This company has been the source of controversy ever since TDC inexplicably, and behind closed doors, threw out a viable alternative bid for the site from a known UK based company in favour of SFP However (UK) Ltd’s bid. Efforts to discover anything about SFP Whenever (UK) Ltd's base, funding, directors, and records have proved fruitless. Even the London Times couldn't find them. SFP Whoever (UK) Ltd have been given a unbelievably clear run from TDC to buy the site, at a knock down price – what else could it be without a public auction? Perhaps the Mayor could tell the people of Ramsgate the whereabouts of SFP Hereabouts? (UK) Ltd’s parent company, who owns it and who does its books. If the mayor is going to cock-a-snook at the people of Ramsgate, this card is the way to do it. We’re not implying that SFP Whatever (UK) Ltd is not an honest company. But surely honest companies, like honest people, willingly and transparently identify themselves. Lastly is it proper for any Thanet District Councillor and Mayor to take a donation, no matter how small, from a company that is still, controversially, as far as the people of Ramsgate are concerned, involved in a building project on what was land set aside for the benefit of the people of Ramsgate? It is time we had an independent public enquiry into this transaction.
