St Tudy Parish Council

Welcome to the website for St Tudy Parish Council.

There are 10 members on the council, chosen by the people of St. Tudy.  Elections are held every 4 years, except for the chairman and vice-chairman who are elected every year by members of the council.

The Parish Council meets normally on the last Wednesday of the month, in the side room of the Methodist Church, except for the month of December.

You will need a pdf viewer such as Adobe Acrobat reader, installed in order to be able to view the associated documents.

WELCOME TO ST TUDY

In the centre of the village is the local pub, The St Tudy Inn, the Parish Church, the Bus Shelter which also acts as an informal village notice board and the Clink. The latter often holds coffee mornings for various organisations and is a good place to meet and get to know people. Close by is the War Memorial, remembering the men of St Tudy that died in conflict and a Chestnut Tree with an interesting inscription. The Primary School and Playing Fields are near the village centre; on the edge of the village, in different directions, are the Methodist Chapel and the Village Hall. Next to the Village Hall you will find the St Tudy Community Shop.  The churches offer a warm welcome to everyone wishing to join the local Christian community and the times of services and activities can be found in the Parish Magazine.

From the Primary School, children at 11+ go on to the senior schools either at Camelford, Bodmin or Wadebridge.

The village contains many old buildings and a number of them in the centre are Grade 2 listed.  St Tudy church is a Grade 1 listed building and dates back to the 12th century, although it was subject to extensive Victorian restorations. Internally there are several interesting artefacts, including some unique slate pictures of the Reskymer family. The site of the church is believed to have been a place of worship since at least Saxon times and the remains of Iron Age rounds within the churchyard, in Jory’s Meadow and elsewhere indicates the area of the village may have been occupied for more than two millennia. A history of the church can be found in the church and a book “The Binding Stone” published by the villagers, although now out of stock, is available to view on the St Tudy History Group website www.sttudyhistorygroup.co.uk. The History Group meets every month to explore village and Cornish History.

The St Tudy Community Shop provides a full range of fresh and frozen food with other groceries, along with newspapers, magazines, wines & spirits, stationery, postcards and other goods. It also provides an extensive Post Office and banking service. Led by a village committee, staffed by volunteers, managed by two paid staff it won an award as the best Community Shop in the South West Region in 2016. Do call in to meet us.

New volunteers are always welcome – full training and support provided. Drop by and speak to our managers, Karen Roberts or Kim Chapman, or call Volunteer Liaison - Denise Whitehouse 01208 851866. View the Community Shop Website:   www.sttudyshop.co.uk

St Tudy prides itself on being a friendly and welcoming village; we hope you will find living here both enjoyable and fulfilling.
