PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATOR

The parish of Burmington have come together to play a vital role in helping save lives in the community.

Residents generously gave donations towards a Public Access Defibrillator to be located in the village, which can be accessed at any hour in the event of a cardiac arrest.

After calling 999 and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using a defibrillator is the best way to significantly increase the chances of survival. The machine works by checking the casualty’s heart rhythm once the defibrillator pads are placed on their chest and giving them a shock if needed. Defibrillators can be used on adults and children over one year old.

The device has been installed to the front of Burmington village hall by Stuart Eastbury of Shipston First Responders and Lee Williams of LGW Electrical Services.

All community defibrillators are registered with The Circuit (The National Defibrillator Network) so The Ambulance Service can signpost the public to the nearest machine.

Whilst defibrillators are easy to operate and require no training to use, the next step is to arrange basic training with Shipston First Responders, to encourage confidence and familiarity with the device and ensure quick action in an emergency.
