BASIC TRAINING IN CPR & THE USE OF A PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATOR

Further to Burmington village acquiring a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) through generous donations from residents, two members of Shipston Community First Responders, Stuart Eastbury and Aileen Sherer, recently attended the village hall to give a brief basic training session in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD), for anyone who wanted to feel more confident in the case of an emergency.

We ran through the rudimentary First Aid primary actions:

In the event a person collapses follow the basic rule of DRS ABC

We also viewed the PAD, attached to the village hall exterior wall, and learned about the equipment contained, including how to apply the machine when required. It is designed for everyone to use without training.

We are currently in the process of setting up a “Defib Runners” group in Burmington. Should an emergency occur within the parish and the emergency services have been called, the Ambulance Service contacts a call centre who in turn contact the “Runners”. The “Runner” who answers first receives the call and will help in the emergency if they are able. If not, the next on the list will be contacted and so on.

If you would like to be on the “Defib Runner” list for Burmington, please send your details: name, address, telephone number and email address to BurmingtonParishMeeting@gmail.com and we will forward to the Community First Responders.
