808 bus service via Elsdon

Dear Elsdon residents

As you may well be aware earlier in 2021 when there were roadworks at Monkridge on the A696, the 808 early morning weekday bus service was diverted through Elsdon.

A few people were able to take advantage of this and caught the bus from the bus shelter on the village green.

Unfortunately that temporary service has reverted back and now goes directly from Otterburn to Newcastle along the A696.

There has been a couple of residents enquiring as to whether the diversion via Elsdon could be made a permanent feature. Northumberland County Council (NCC) would be willing to possibly trial the service but would need to be convinced that there would be a sufficient number of regular passengers to do this.

If you believe that you would use the service, even if not every weekday, please can you advise the Parish Clerk, Martin Chilvers either by

For your information the current timetable shows the bus leaving Otterburn at 07:00 and arriving at Newcastle, Haymarket bus station at 08:03. The return journey leaves 17:20 arriving back in Otterburn at 18:18.

The 808 service also runs on Saturday with a slightly different timetable. It leaves Otterburn 10:35, arriving at Newcastle, Haymarket Bus Station (stand X) at 11:40. The return journey leaves Newcastle at 17:20 arriving 18:15 in Otterburn.  A return ticket currently costs £6.75 from Otterburn.

Please register your possible interest to use the service by 18 July. If there is sufficient interest then NCC may be able to trial the diverted service from autumn.
