Soppit junction flooding on B6341

If you travel regularly along the road between Elsdon and Otterburn, you will have been aware over the last few years of what some local residents have referred to as Soppit swimming pool. Recently Northumberland County Council has carried out some extensive drainage work at the bottom of Soppit lane, to redirect water down to Soppit Sike, and so far this has proved successful.

The drain was concreted in and the excess soil was spread out so the verge now looks like the remnants of World War I trenches.

Elsdon Parish Council has been assured that the verge will be re-seeded in the Spring, along with the installation of a further drain under the road to ensure there is little chance of any more flooding in that vicinity.
