Wedmore Information & History
Wedmore has been a settlement since early times; recent discoveries have unearthed remains of the Bronze and Iron Ages. Several Roman sites have also been found, and in Saxon times Wedmore belonged to the Kings of Wessex.
King Alfred is said to have signed a peace treaty with Guthrum of the Danes in Wedmore. The village has pubs and restaurants with a Post Office, village store, delicatessen, chemist and fashion shops. There are also gift shops, hairdressers, butcher, fishmonger and many more retail outlets.

The parish council is pleased to announce the launch of this year's Henry Butt Trophy Award. Residents of the parish are invited to nominate individuals or groups who have contributed significantly to the community whether for work done over the past year or commitment over many years. Awards will be presented at the Annual Parish Assembly on 22nd May 2024.
