Northumberland Draft Plan 2019

Northumberland Local Plan

Publication Draft Local Plan - 30 January to 13 March 2019

Following agreement by Cabinet on 19 December 2018 and Full Council on 9 January 2019, I am writing to provide you with advance warning that comments on the ‘Publication Draft’ of the Northumberland Local Plan will be invited during a six week period between 30 January 2019 and 13 March 2019.

The papers for the above meetings, which includes a draft of the Publication version of the Local Plan and the Policies Map, can be accessed from the following link: http://committee.northumberland.gov.uk/Meeting.aspx?MeetID=9385

The Local Plan sets out strategic planning policies and planning principles for the whole county, the general scale and distribution of new development, and the detail of where new homes, workplaces and facilities will be located. The Publication Draft Local Plan provides the final opportunity to comment on the document before it is submitted for independent examination.

In February and March 2019 we will be hosting a number of drop-in sessions around Northumberland. The drop-in sessions will include a small exhibition and staff from the local plan team will be present to help answer questions and advise on how to provide comments. The dates, times and venues for these drop-in sessions are provided below for your information.

Drop-in sessions for the Northumberland Local Plan - February and March 2019

Alongside the Publication Draft of the Local Plan, the council is publishing for consultation scoping documents for a Design Guide for Northumberland and a Highways and Transportation Design and Delivery document, which together will provide developers, landowners and applicants with holistic design principles, guidance and good practice.

We will send you an email on 30 January 2019 to notify you formally of the publication of the Local Plan and provide details of how you can view the final consultation document and how you can provide comments. In addition, we will send you a paper copy of the consultation documents.

We will also be publicising the consultation more widely to residents and businesses by sending a flyer to every address in Northumberland. This will include details of the drop-in sessions that will be held across Northumberland during the consultation period that will allow people to find out more about the consultation and how to provide their comments.

I hope this update is helpful. If you have any queries relating to this forthcoming consultation, please do not hesitate to contact us via email to PlanningStrategy@northumberland.gov.uk or 01670 623631. More information on the Northumberland Local Plan can be found on our website at www.northumberland.gov.uk/localplan.

Yours faithfully

Paul Johnston
