Although no sightings were reported on the Island last year, nests have been seen just across the Solent.

These have darker bodies than the european hornet and distinctive yellow legs. At 3.5cm long they are slightly smaller than native hornets.

They are a pest that feeds on bees, mayflies,moths & butterflies and any sightings should be reported, with a photograph, to alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk
