The Diamond Motorcycle Festival

The advice letter for this proposed event was sent to local residents last week, and has caused a significant number of local concerns.

The Parish Council had no advance warning or consultation on this, along with the other affected villages on the planned course.

The Isle of Wight Council has subsequently agreed to run an online meeting to involve the organisers and the local parish councils, and this took place last night. Karen Smith represented Shorwell, and the attached briefing document was issued prior to the meeting.

The following areas were covered:

The proposed event has not yet been officially licensed or an exact date set, although the Council do have powers to decide on such events.

The proposed timescale is Mon/Tues registration-Wed/Thurs practice-Saturday race.

Road closures are expected to take place between 9:30-3:30 with a 30 min slot for access at lunchtime.

A further meeting is planned in 3 weeks, and the Parish Council are also hoping to organise a local meeting as soon as this becomes possible.

The organisers are keen to satisfy any local concerns, and residents are encouraged to contact them if there are specific issues with carers/access etc.
