The above Trust was set up in memory of Peter and Ruth Lloyd who both met and served at the wartime airfield of RAF Wratting Common. Due to their love of the Wratting Common area and the many friends that they made over the years, their surviving children decided to set up the Trust to aid young people going to University for the first time. Students from the parishes of Carlton, Great Thurlow, Little Thurlow, West Wickham, West Wratting, Weston Colville and Withersfield are eligible to apply for consideration.
The Trust has now made its first award of £800 to Chloe Westley of Weston Colville who will be reading Chemistry, Biological and Medicinal Chemistry at York University.

DISTRICT COUNCIL NOTES
Planning goes online
The East Cambridgeshire planning service went online in July which means that planning applications can now be accessed on a computer.
'Planning Online' means that anyone involved in a planning application, whether an applicant, an agent or neighbour, can view all the documents involved in the development. The information available online includes:
the original submission and any amendments
a list of the people consulted and their responses
      the site notice
      drawings
      officer report
      decision notice
The service also provides details of the case officer and a list of important dates to allowanyone to keep up-to-date with the case progress and submission of comments via the internet.
The site can be accessed directly from the Council's

Wrapping Food Waste
An article in The Times at the end of July highlights the good sense of wrapping food waste before putting it into the brown bags for recycling. A study by the government-funded waste watchdog, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, recommends to local councils that where collections of recyclable waste are carried out fortnightly, then particularly in the warm summer months, food waste should not be kept in the house for long periods, and it should be wrapped before putting into the recycling bin or sack. This could be another way to use up some of the newspaper that we all put out for recycling on a regular basis.
New collection days
From week beginning 5 October, refuse and recycling will be collected only on THURSDAYS throughout the whole of the Bottisham Ward (Bottisham, Lode, Six Mile Bottom, Brinkley, Burrough Green and Westley Waterless). Both types of waste will be collected on 8 October. Thereafter, black bag refuse will be collected weekly and recycling will be collected fortnightly, as before but on THURSDAY. The Council has replanned the collection days throughout the whole district where, in many villages and towns, refuse and recycling have been collected on different days of the week. This will reduce the overall distances that the collection lorries have to travel.
All households should receive leaflets giving full details of the service before October. If you do not have a black box, a clear plastic bottle sack or at least one brown paper sack, please contact the Council on 01353 665555.
Christine Bryant and Robert Stevens (01223 811767 and 01223 811642)

RECYCLING
As mentioned in the councillors’ report, the recycling days have been altered. Hopefully everyone has received a new leaflet detailing the new arrangements. I will endeavour to give you the correct dates every month!
Brown Sack dates for October are THURSDAYS 8th & 22nd.

BURROUGH GREEN C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL
A new term and a new school build in progress!
It is an exciting time for Burrough Green as work has finally started on our new school build. In progress is the new playground (although this has had several delays) and ripping away the extensions on the Grade II listed building. For up to date information, please check out our website – www.burroughgreen.com. This will include photos of the work and detailed information regarding changes to the day to day procedures if required.
We have 11 children joining Mrs Downes in Reception and a further 6 children within years 1-6, this brings our total to 103 pupils. Playgroup are fully attended which is encouraging for the future.
This term will see a big adjustment for everyone as work continues on site, and it is the spirit of everyone at Burrough Green to help each other and work through. Our travel plan is in motion which has a very successful walking bus which picks up children in Church Lane. We also have several parents car-pooling which also helps congestion outside school and the school bus is being utilised. We thank everyone who is helping with the new arrangements.
Autumn term started with teacher – parent meetings where the parents can hear all the topics and activities for the new term. This is very useful for the new parents and helps to bring them closer to the school and to feel welcome. Also we have the Family Learning Festival where by parents are welcomed to time-tabled activities during the school day to take part in lessons and see how the children are taught certain subjects first hand.
Next month we shall have a report from Class 4 regarding their annual visit to Ely Cathedral.
Please come and join us at St Augustine’s Church, Burrough Green for our annual Harvest Festival Service. This will take place on Friday 2nd October at 9.15am. All parents, friends and the wider community are welcome to our church assemblies.

Dear Friends,
It’s my favourite time of year again, that season of mists and mellow fruitfulness as Keats so beautifully put it. It is a time of gathering and storing the good gifts God has given us, a time of beauty and soft shadows as the leaves turn and the nights draw in. It is also a season of looking back as our thoughts begin to turn to Remembrance Sunday and the ancient service of All Souls in which we gather to remember those we have loved who are no longer with us. The turn of the seasons and the dying of the light reminds us that we are but frail human beings, who like the natural world of which we are a part, have a given life span: as it is written in the book of Ecclesiastes, For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die.’

I would imagine that most of us are familiar with what happens on Remembrance Sunday but perhaps not at All Souls, nor I might add on All Hallows Eve. All Hallows' Eve falls on 31 October each year, and is the day before All Hallows' Day, also known as All Saints' Day in the Christian calendar. The Church traditionally held a vigil on All Hallows' Eve when worshippers would prepare themselves with prayers and fasting prior to the feast day itself. Of course All Hallows has been superceded by the ubiquitous Halloween now, an American import that exploits the susceptibility of our children and makes someone somewhere a great deal of money. But back to All Souls --- an ancient and beautiful service in which we remember those we love who have died. We will hold this service on Sunday 1st November at Burrough Green Church at 6pm where we will remember our loved ones in prayer and by reading their names aloud and lighting candles in their memory. All Souls actually falls on a Monday this year but I figured that if we held it on a Sunday evening then more people would be able to come. I will be inviting those whose relative’s funerals I have conducted during the time I have been here. Forgive me for not writing to all of you who have been bereaved but I have no way of knowing who you are; please do come to the service. Of course we never, ever forget those we love who have died but this is an opportunity to remember with others, to acknowledge our grief before God, and to ask that his healing love might touch our lives in some way. And if you are unable to come but would like someone remembered then please do get in touch with me and I will make sure their name is read out.

So, as the nights draw in, as we tidy the garden and wait hopefully for the Brussels and parsnips to mature, remember ---- and give thanks.
Love and prayers.

Pauline, revpauline@btinternet.com, 508990

Our thoughts and prayers are with: The family of Patricia Bird whose Thanksgiving Service was held in St Mary's Dullingham on September 11th. The family of Joan Mole whose funeral was held at West Suffolk  crematorium on 29th September.  Also the family of June Oglesby. May  they rest in peace. Our congratulations and prayers for God's blessing go to Nick and  Frances Fitsall who were married at St Peter's Stetchworth on  September 19th, and William and Joanne Owen who were married at St  Mary's Dullingham on 26th September.

MILLY SMITH – new address
My mother, Milly Smith, has recently moved from Burrough Green. Mum has been a local resident since she came from the East End of London during the war as a land girl. She met and married my dad, Ernie, and stayed.  I thought this might be a way of letting all the local people who know her that she is now a resident of Kingfisher House in Newmarket.  Her full address is: No’7 Spiller Wing, Kingfisher House, St Fabians Way, Exning Road, Newmarket, CB8 0EJ.
 Regards, Margaret
JOLLY TOTS, MOTHER & TODDLER GROUP
at the Ellesmere Centre, Stetchworth.
We all had a busy summer and it was lovely starting our weekly sessions again. We said a sad goodbye to a few children and their mothers in July as the children were starting school, but it was nice to also welcome younger children who joined just before the summer holidays.
We welcome parents and grandparents/carers with their children from 10am to 11.30am every Thursday (term time only). We have a dedicated baby area and offer a wide variety of toys and activities for all age groups (0-4). We also provide healthy snacks for the children whilst parents can enjoy a hot/cold drink with cake or biscuits (together with a good gossip!).
Sessions cost £3 per family per week. We are a breastfeeding friendly group and welcome parents from all backgrounds.
We will be having a Halloween party on 22 October where children (and parents if they wish) can come dressed up for the occasion.
If you wish to know more, please come along to one of the sessions or call Tiffany on 01638 507900.
