Twinwood Protest 12.03.16.

Police have advised us of a planned protest that is taking place at Yarl’s Wood detention centre this Saturday (12 March).

Police are aware of the protest and have a full plan in place to ensure that it is carried out peacefully and legitimately with minimum disruption to local residents and businesses.

As a result of the protest, Thurleigh Road will be closed on Saturday between 10am and 8pm. People attending the Twinwood Business Park along with local residents with still have access to the road, however, if the protest does move on to the highway then traffic will have to be stopped for safety reasons.

This would be carried out under the direction of a police office or police community support officer using section 16a of the Traffic Regulations Act as authorised by Bedford Borough Council highways department.

Police have said that although this is unlikely to happen and they will do everything possible to avoid this scenario, they wanted to ensure that we were fully aware.

If you do experience any concerns during the protest then we would ask you to dial 111, or call 999 in an emergency.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding of this matter.
