Bedford’s Christmas Lights Switch On event will take place on Wednesday 27th November, at 7pm, along The Embankment. Everyone is invited to attend this free Christmas event for all the family - even Father Christmas will be there!
This year’s Council-run event, supported by BedfordBID, also marks the start of late night Christmas shopping in town. Those attending the show are encouraged to kick-start their Christmas shopping with a visit to the shops before walking along the Embankment from Town Bridge to enjoy the show.
This year’s event will once again feature a spectacular fireworks display and numerous other attractions, including a visit from Father Christmas himself and Christmas music!
The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The Christmas Lights Switch-On is always a hugely popular event for all the family. We look forward once again to seeing thousands of people coming together to enjoy the occasion and mark the start of the Christmas season in Bedford town centre in style.
“This year’s switch-on coincides with the first evening of late-night shopping and is the first of numerous exciting events in the town centre. With the Free Parking Deal starting on Saturdays from November 23rd too, there is every reason to come and enjoy Christmas in Bedford!
“It all kicks off from 7pm, so get there early to get a good spot and help welcome Father Christmas to Bedford!”
There will be free late night parking on the 27th November, from 5.30pm, in River Street and Lurke Street car park.
Following the Christmas Switch On event will be The Bedford Christmas Fayre which will take place in Harpur Square and Midland Road, from 10am, from Friday 13th December - Sunday 15th December. Throughout the three day fayre there will an array of madcap seasonal street entertainment, music and shows that are filled with fun characters. Children can be kept entertained by rides including a helter skelter, carousel, swing boats, and a fantastic steam engine.
