DON’T BE LATE FOR STARTING SCHOOL

Bedford Borough Council is urging parents to apply for a 'Starting School' place as soon as possible.

Last year, Bedford Borough Council received 211 late applications.  As a result, some children were not able to go to their preferred school.

The Council is reminding everyone that submitting a late application significantly reduces their child’s chance of an offer of a place at one of their preferred schools.

Cllr Henry Vann, Portfolio Holder for Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “It is really important that people submit applications to schools on behalf of their children on time - this will ensure the fairest possible distribution of school places. We help to secure preferred placements as much as we can and we encourage parents to make an application soon to avoid any unnecessary disappointment.”

If you are a parent or carer of a child born between 01/09/09 and 31/08/10, then you need to apply for a school place before the 15 January 2014.

You can apply online via www.bedford.gov.uk/onlineadmissions.  Before you apply, please read the ‘Starting School’ booklet which can be found at www.bedford.gov.uk/admissions
