Creaton Playing Fields Association

The Association was formed in 1980 in order to provide recreational facilities for the village, and in particular its children. Initially no land was available until 1985 when Captain John McDonald-Buchanan of Cottesbrooke Estate kindly granted a lease to the Association at a peppercorn rent. The field has been developed over the years as a result of hard work and the availability of funds. The original members of the Association were responsible for the backbreaking work of clearing the field of stones, levelling and seeding the grass. A tractor and cutting equipment was purchased together with a set of goal posts. The playing field as we now know it was born.

Over the years swings, a see-saw, slide and basketball hoop have been added. In acknowledgement of the needs of the teenagers in the village, a skateboard half-pipe was purchased in 1997 and has proved extremely popular.  The field is mowed weekly during the summer by a rota of mowers and occasional work parties tend to the painting of goal posts, strimming the edges and fence maintenance.

In April 2000 the Association became a Registered Charity no: 1085011. Funds raised go towards our running costs which are approximately £2,000 per year.  This figure covers insurances, mowing costs and yearly RoSPA inspections.

Funds are raised through our popular car boot sales which are held durring the summer and a quiz evening.

If you have any time to spare and would like to help at the car boot sales, whether it be by donating a cake, helping in the refreshment tent, or even being on the rota for mowing the field,  please give Ian Horne a call on 01604 505463.
