Coughton V Sambourne Skittles
Another closely fought match but, this time Sambourne managed to steal the trophy away from Coughton.
Our thanks go to Matt and Justin for organising this most enjoyable evening and to everyone who helped on the night with replacing the skittles and keeping the score.
Save the Date for Coughton Fete which will take place on Saturday 13th July 2019 at Coughton Court.

Festive Feet 2018
30th December 2018, was uncannily mild and dry and this may well have accounted for the number of walkers, almost 40, who gathered for the Christmas stroll. The route was planned by Joy and Jim Hawthorne and took us via Coughton Court ( by kind permission of The National Trust and the Throckmorton Family as the site was officially closed to the public) and along the River to Spernal Lane, returning via footpaths to our "Local", the Throckmorton Arms, where Dave and Sally extended a warm welcome and provided refreshments for all to enjoy.
Village Hog Roast Saturday 11th August 2018
Over 60 residents turned out, despite the weather, to enjoy a very tasty hog.
Our thanks go to Wendy Stokes and the National Trust at Coughton Court for organising and hosting the event in the tea room, and to the volunteers who sold tickets around the village.

16th April 2018 Preliminary Fete Meeting to discuss ideas and involve volunteers. To be held in the Courtyard Tea room at Coughton Court at 7.00pm . All welcome to attend and bring along refreshments.
28th/29th April 2018, 11.00am - 3.00pm Volunteer weekend at Coughton & Sambourne Cemetery, Sambourne Lane. A limited selection of hand tools will be available. Please feel free to bring your own bearing in mind there is no power supply on site.
Saturday 12th May 2018 Coughton v Sambourne Skittles
The annual Skittles match Coughton v Sambourne will take place on Saturday 12th May, 7.30pm for 8pm start, at the The Swan, High St, Studley (same venue as last year).
The cost per person will be £7.50 for the skittles and a hot meal or £2.00 for just the skittles, this will cover all costs and prizes and any leftover money will go to the local community.

Festive Feet
The "Festive Feet" local walk took place on Saturday 30 December 2017 and was well supported by Coughton residents with extended family, friends and dogs in tow.
Our thanks go to Jim and Joy Hawthorne, who did us proud in finding a suitable safe route along local public footpaths despite the area being somewhat waterlogged after the recent snow and rain. Also to Sally and Dave who provided a warm welcome at the Throckmorton Arms and generously served us all with delicious soup and sandwiches in front of a roaring log fire on our return. A perfect end to a lovely day.
Coughton with Sambourne Cemetery Volunteer Weekend

Thank you to everyone who helped to complete the seasonal hedge trimming as well as the identified tasks which included more general maintenance, such as the re staining of the gates. We also planted some more Spring flowering bulbs purchased with generous donations from local residents .
Hog Roast

And the weather remained dry...but only JUST! Not quite the sunny evening we had envisaged but that did'nt stop around 100 of us gathering to enjoy the hog and a tasty veggie alternative.
Thanks to the Team at Coughton Court for organising and hosting another great social event that stretched on way into the evening.

Year on year this event grows and grows. A record number of Volunteers and visitors helped raise over £1558.00 for local causes.

Skittles
Saturday 6th May 2017
The annual Skittles match Coughton v Sambourne took place on Saturday 6th May 2017. It was well supported and a great time was had by all. The teams fought hard and the scores were virtually level all night. At the end it was down to a sudden death single throw by one member of each team and Coughton stole the victory by one pin!
Our thanks to Sophie Baylis and Justin Kerridge for getting the teams together and booking the venue and to the many who helped on the night with keeping score and replacing the skittles.
Steve Bayliss, who scored that amazing final point, holds his pineapple with well-deserved pride.
Coughton with Sambourne Cemetery
The Spring tidy up of the Coughton & Sambourne Cemetery took place on 8th & 9th April and we were blessed with the best weather of the year so far. Thanks to the 15 Volunteers who came along over the weekend many of the identified activities were completed.
For those of us who take part it has become a most enjoyable occasion when we have the chance to catch up with each other whilst doing something so worthwhile and rewarding. The essential maintenance of this special site is for the benefit of all visitors, many of who are unable to carry out the essential physical activity required.
The location is peaceful and idyllic and provides a perfect antidote to our busy and often chaotic lives. Why not take some time to visit and enjoy this special place at the heart of our community and maybe join us at the next Volunteer event in the Autumn.

Coughton with Sambourne Cemetery
Once again we had a wonderful turnout of willing helpers who worked together to tackle the Autumn tidy up. Hedges were cut, trees were pruned, gutters emptied, gates cleaned, 2 huge bags of top soil emptied to level sunken ground, and over 2000 native bluebell and snowdrop bulbs were planted.
We would like to thank everyone who helped at the weekend, those of you who undertake activities all year round at this lovely site and lastly, for the sponsorship monies kindly donated for the purchase of the bulbs.
We hope to continue to enhance the Cemetery with bulb planting in the future and we are most grateful for the financial support from local residents, without which this could not happen.

A Beacon in Coughton For The Queen's Birthday
Simon Pickering and some of his staff welcomed a small band of local residents on Thursday 21 April 2016 with some enjoyable refreshments and a beacon to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
By 8.30 pm there were still a few bright sparks remaining.
Coughton and Sambourne Cemetery Volunteer Weekend

Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th April 2016
Once again I wish to thank all of the volunteers from Coughton and Sambourne who turned out to help at the Cemetery tidy up.
The wintery showers on Saturday 16th April beat even the hardiest of our Volunteers into submission but, the sun shone on Sunday 17th and a good number of our regular supporters turned out for a green work out !
Many of the identified tasks were tackled including the spreading of 2 sq metres of top soil to level some areas of uneven ground, tree pruning , repairs to the old boundary wall, bulb planting and general leaf and stick collection.
The Cemetery is looking really good .
Thank you to all of you who help to maintain this wonderful village asset.

Festive Feet
Coughton Village Walk 27th December 2015
The biggest turnout yet with over fifty people enjoying the short local walk, with mulled wine at the half way point, on an unseasonably mild, cloudy day, with only a very short shower of rain.
Our thanks go to Joy and Jim Hawthorne for organising the route and carrying out the necessary reconnaissance; also to Geoff Collett, who gave brief historical and farming facts to the group along the way; and last but not least, to Dave and Sally, owners of the Throckmorton Arms, who provided a wonderful warm welcome with soup and sandwiches in front of an open fire on our return.
We will be venturing out again for the Summer Stroll and details will be published in the Link magazine and on the village website in due course.
Coughton With Sambourne Cemetery
Saturday & Sunday 10th & 11th October 2015
Thank you to the wonderful Volunteers, all twenty of you, who turned out over the weekend of 10th & 11th October, to undertake the autumn tidy up at the Cemetery; and also to those of you who donated spring bulbs for planting.
The outlined tasks were all completed and once again the Cemetery is looking fantastic .It was a most enjoyable time, catching up with everyone, in the glorious sunshine. More than once I heard how lucky we all are to live in such a wonderful place.
The next event at the Cemetery will take place in the spring.
Summer Stroll Sunday 16th August 2015
The fine weather saw a good turnout for this year's Summer Stroll. Residents, friends and extended family enjoyed a three mile walk from Coughton School, via the Ford, along the river Arrow through the Heart of England Forest to Spernal, returning across the fields to enjoy refreshments at the Throckmorton Arms.

Coughton Fete 18 July 2015
A great time was had by all at the Annual Fete, opened by Councillor Mike Gittus, held in the garden of Coughton Court . There was something for everyone from the many stalls and games to the old fashioned sports day, which culminated in a seriously competitive tug of war.
Visitor numbers on the day exceeded expectations and the event raised somewhere in the region of £1200.00, which will be put to good use in the local community.
Our thanks go to Mike Gittus, the Volunteers, Staff , The National Trust at Coughton Court and the many people who supported the event with donations for the stalls and by coming along to enjoy the day.
Ford Area Restoration
Thanks to the hard efforts of volunteers on 29th April, excellent progress was made in clearing the footpaths paths on both sides of the footbridge. It is now at least twice the width, and pedestrians and cyclists can pass through easily, without being attacked by overgrown nettles and brambles.

Volunteer weekend 11 & 12 April 2015
A big thank you to all of you who turned out over the weekend to support this activity. Despite a number of our regular volunteeers being away on holiday we were delighted to welcome nineteen local residents over the two day event.
We would also like to thank those residents who continue to support us throughout the year and respond to our requests for help with specific tasks.
Several visitors to the cemetery have expressed their appreciation and remarked on the tidiness and general appearance of the area.

Festive Feet
Sunday 28th December 2014.
A record number of past and present residents, friends and visiting families all joined together to enjoy a bright and frosty morning walk around the village of Coughton. We all sampled a little mulled wine at the half-way point and many also stopped off at the Throckmorton Arms at the end of the walk, sitting outside to enjoy the last of the afternoon sunshine.
We would like to thank Jim and Joy Hawthorn for organising the route and also, to welcome our newest residents Paul and Ann who moved to Coughton just before Christmas.

Autumn Volunteer weekend.
Sadly, rain stopped play on Saturday 4th October but Sunday 5th remained dry and the volunteers managed to tackle many of the tasks outlined for the Autumn tidy up. The following week saw several residents turn out again to complete a number of unfinished tasks and clear away the huge heap of hedge clippings. A big thank you to everyone who took part.
As always we are amazed at what can be achieved by the Community Volunteers who give whatever time they can and work so hard to keep the cemetery tidy. Some of you may also be surprised at how much fun we have too! So why not join us in the Spring for the next tidy up weekend? Details to be announced in the Link and on the website.
