Retiring Chairman receives Freedom of Parish

Tony Wycherley has served for 23 years on the Parish Council and been chairman for 17 of them. This month he retires to move to Somerset with his wife Audrey. To mark his long and eminent service to the village, in a special ceremony attended by his friends and neighbours, the Parish Council awarded him the highest honour it can bestow: the Freedom of the Parish.

The freedoms it confers are ancient are of little practical value these days, but the honour is real and enshrined in a framed parchment scroll signed by his fellow councillors as a mark of their respect and appreciation.

Tony's contribution to village life, the netwok of contacts he made and the influence he had on decisions affecting the village will be hard to replace. We wish him and Audrey well in their new life in Somerset.
